Is this man a Scam Artist, a Thief and/or a LIAR?

Who is he and where did he work?

       Below is his business card.

You be the judge and you make your own decision.

We met Freddy Magid in December 2008 at the Playa Grande Resort and Grand Spa.   He introduced himself as a highly ranked Manager at the resort and stated we were very lucky to have him for the presentation because of his knowledge and experience in the vacation industry, also very few Managers make presentations.  In subsequent emails from him, he signed his title as V.P.  He informed us with his status and position that he could make things happen.  He told us that he was a former professional tennis star and that Marriot Resorts hired him into the industry years ago because of his celebrity status.  He gave us a tour of the lovely facility, then explained the program.  He reviewed our other timeshare properties and stated the industry has changed, timeshares are a thing of the past and we needed to get out from our other 2 properties as soon as possible.  He told us no one needs 3 separate vacation plans, that he could clean up our mess and get us out of our other 2 properties quickly, easily and receive our full cost back.  He stated if we purchased the Playa Grande Resort plan he presented, that he would do all the paperwork for the guaranteed liquidated of our 2 properties for a fixed amount, which was our cost that he looked up, and stated that we would receive full payment within 180 days.  He said the reason it was guaranteed was because even if they didn't sell that his parent company had the cash and would buy them, then also the parent company would take a tax write off, because they had plenty of tax write offs available, so they would be happy to do it.  He set up our payment structure to Playa Grande Resort to start in 3 months, because we would receive the funds from one of the properties within 90 days.  With his knowledge and position at this beautiful resort we believed what he was saying was accurate.  Following our meeting he also sent us an email that he assigned our 2 properties to a broker for guaranteed liquidation. (click to see Freddy's 12-15-09 email)  During our meeting, Freddy (the V.P. of the Playa Group) made numerous promises to us, some of which we wrote in an email to him.  (click to see our 1-22-09 email)  Freddy’s email response on 1-22-09 (click to see Freddy's 1-22-09 email), stated “First of all I want you to know that all of the points below have been put into place”  “Your accounting of the other amounts is totally correct” “Meanwhile let me ashore you that everything will be carried out correctly”   In Freddy’s 1-23-09 email (click to see Freddy's 1-23-09 email) he stated “will be in touch as stated no later than Monday while I get everything straightened out”  In a 1-30-09 email (click to see Freddy's 1-30-09 email) Freddy wrote, “I do appreciate your patience and co operation and can assure you that everything will be completed as we previously spoke about.”

Now do you think Freddy is a Scam Artist, a Thief and/or a LIAR?

Numerous times during our meeting Freddy stated this is definitely NOT a timeshare, that Playa Grande doesn't sell timeshares, it only sells Fractional Ownership.   In a recent newsletter from Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa the Directory of Services section lists the telephone and fax numbers for the Timeshare Sales Office.   Why would Playa Grande Report list this as a Timeshare Sales Office if as Freddy stated they only sell Fractional Ownership?

Because of the guaranteed liquidation of our 2 properties, Freddy also told us not to pay the 2009 maintenance fees.

Since Freddy told us he was in upper management at Playa Grande Resort and signed his emails with V.P., wouldn't you think the resort should back him?  (click here to find out more information about the Playa Grande Resort)
